CarePoint emergency medicine physician and EMS Medical Director Jeff Beckman, MD, has received the Colorado American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Meritorious Service Award, which honors the “significant achievements” of someone who has “enhanced Colorado’s healthcare system and the profession of emergency medicine by exemplary service.”
Dr. Beckman was recognized at Colorado ACEP’s annual meeting on January 22, 2026, in Denver.
Dr. Beckman, who practices at several Colorado emergency departments and chairs the Denver Metro EMS Medical Directors group, also currently serves as medical director of many EMS and fire department agencies in the Denver metro region and in rural Lake and Park counties.
The Meritorious Service Award is just the latest in a collection of awards and recognitions for Dr. Beckman, whose 25-plus-year career has been marked by meaningful contributions to emergency medicine and EMS.
Prior to becoming CarePoint’s EMS leader, Dr. Beckman served for eight years as EMS medical director of the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, where he oversaw the state’s entire EMS and trauma system. In recognition of Dr. Beckman’s service as Colorado’s EMS head, a flag was flown over the state capitol on May 3, 2024, at the request of Governor Jared Polis. The flag and a certificate signed by the governor were presented to Dr. Beckman afterward. Only a select few Coloradans have been honored in this way.
A decade earlier, in 2014, Dr. Beckman received another prestigious award: the Dr. Valentin E. Wohlauer Award for Physician Excellence, an Emergency Medical Services Association of Colorado-sponsored award presented to a Colorado physician who has made “substantial contributions to the advancement of EMS in Colorado.”
In late 2025, Dr. Beckman and his team at the Arvada Fire Protection District successfully implemented one of the first prehospital transfusion programs in the Denver metro area, delivering whole blood to patients in hemorrhagic shock. The program has had an immediate, life-saving impact and has significantly advanced the team’s capability to provide critical care to residents and visitors within the district.
“For more than two decades, Dr. Beckman has advanced patient care across Colorado through innovation, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to our communities. From being the state’s EMS leader to pioneering life-saving transfusion programs, his impact is profound and lasting. He is a highly deserving recipient of the Colorado ACEP Meritorious Service Award.”

An Emory University School of Medicine graduate, Dr. Beckman completed his emergency medicine residency at Denver Health. As an undergraduate student at the University of Georgia, he studied biochemistry and molecular biology and published research.
