Blue Sky Neurosciences (Inpatient) - Advanced Practice Provider
Position Description
The role of the Inpatient Neurology Advanced Practice Provider is to provide exceptional clinical care of patients in the hospital setting, working alongside and collaborating with Neuro Hospitalists. This position will function at Methodist Metropolitan Hospital, San Antonio, Texas. The position will encompass a Monday- Friday, 8am – 4pm schedule. Currently there are no on-call duties. The team currently has 3 APPs.
CarePoint Blue Sky Neurosciences (CPN) is an innovative neurology practice that provides the full spectrum of neurologic services for patients and those involved in their care. CPN was founded in 2005 by established clinicians known throughout Denver and the Colorado region. Since then, the practice has thrived and expanded in San Antonio.
Position Requirements
Education/Licensure:
- Master’s degree
- Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
- Current NP or PA license in good standing with the state
- Prescriptive authority and DEA number, or the ability to obtain if applicable
- Current BLS
- AACN (ACNPC-AG): Acute Care Nurse Practitioner – Adult Gerontology certification
- Current Acute Care Certification
Experience:
APP experience preferred; Neurology experience a plus but not required.

Job Responsibilities
- Coordinates and reviews patient census with Neuro Hospitalist and develops a plan to address each patient
- Participates in unit rounds as needed
- Obtains and reviews patient histories, performs comprehensive and focused exams, and records findings in the electronic medical record
- Determines medical status and diagnosis, and develops a clinical treatment plan alongside the Neuro Hospitalist
- Communicates treatment plan to hospital personnel as well as instructs and counsels patients and families on clinical treatment and care plan to ensure the best possible outcomes
- Orders and interprets diagnostic testing (i.e., labs, EEGS, etc.)
- Exercises initiative and judgment in selecting the proper treatment
- Responds to emergencies in an appropriate manner
- Completes documentation and responds to questions from patients and hospital staff promptly
- Performs hospital follow-up visits (both in person and via telehealth) when needed
- Attends meetings as requested
- Other duties as assigned

Salary range
$100k-$130k

This position is dedicated to Methodist Metropolitan Hospital Downtown with the potential to work at all 3 facilities, covering or picking up extra shifts as they become available. Other facilities include Methodist Stone Oak and the flagship location, Methodist Hospital, located in the South Texas Medical Center in Northwest San Antonio.
Onboarding: Inpatient Stroke Neurology Nurse Practitioner
CarePoint BlueSky Neurosciences is excited to have you join us as an Inpatient Neurology and Stroke Nurse Practitioner. Your clinical expertise and dedication to high-acuity neurological care are critical to advancing our mission of delivering timely, evidence-based care to patients with stroke and other acute neurologic conditions.
To ensure a smooth and successful transition into your role, we have developed a comprehensive onboarding plan that includes:
- Inpatient Stroke Service Orientation: A structured introduction to our stroke care protocols, including NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessments, thrombolytic therapy workflows, post-tPA monitoring, and endovascular coordination.
- Multidisciplinary Rounds Integration: Active participation in daily stroke rounds alongside neurologists, hospitalists, case managers, rehabilitation services, and nursing leadership.
- Emergency Stroke Response Training: Hands-on experience in acute stroke code response, telestroke procedures, and activation of stroke pathways across the hospital.
- Mentorship with Vascular Neurology Leadership: One-on-one clinical mentorship and support from experienced stroke neurologists and senior NPs, focusing on decision-making in acute stroke management and secondary prevention.
- Workflow and EHR Customization: Training on documentation templates, order sets, and stroke-specific dashboards within the electronic health record to ensure accurate and efficient care delivery.
- Quality and Metrics Orientation: Introduction to stroke quality improvement initiatives, including Joint Commission stroke certification standards, time-to-treatment benchmarks, and participation in morbidity and mortality reviews.
