Position Summary

The Enterprise Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at CarePoint is the key executive leader responsible for overseeing our clinical service lines, clinical strategy, quality, and operational effectiveness. The CMO ensures that our physician-led model delivers exceptional patient care while supporting clinician well-being and engagement. This role provides strategic direction on clinical governance, regulatory compliance, innovation, and partnership development to enhance CarePoint’s impact across hospital systems.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A medical degree from an accredited U.S. medical college or school is required.
  • A master’s degree in healthcare administration, business, finance, or another relevant field is strongly preferred.

Licensure:

An Active Medical License and Board Certification are required.

Experience:

  • At least ten (10) years of clinical practice, with progressive leadership experience in healthcare, including roles within medical groups or hospital systems.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and strategic planning skills.
  • Proven leadership in driving change and innovation.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Skilled in setting goals and priorities for large healthcare organizations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical leadership and strategy for a multistate, multispecialty practice in partnership with site and regional Medical Directors.
  • Establish and maintain key hospital relations. Serve as the primary clinical liaison at the division level with hospital partners, strengthening CarePoint’s relationships and reputation.
  • With input from the CEO, board, and senior leadership team, define and implement the clinical vision and strategic initiatives to advance CarePoint’s clinical service lines.
  • Lead quality and patient safety initiatives with our Clinical Practice Committee. Drive continuous improvement in patient outcomes, evidence-based practices, and quality metrics while ensuring regulatory and accreditation compliance.
  • Support physician engagement, development, and wellness. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and well-being among clinicians, supporting recruitment, retention, and professional growth.
  • Provide operational and financial oversight. Partner with the executive team to align clinical operations with financial goals, optimizing efficiency without compromising the quality of care.
  • Promote innovation and industry engagement. Stay ahead of industry trends, integrating emerging technologies, data analytics, and best practices to enhance service delivery.
  • Lead, mentor, and delegate to internal regional leaders.
  • Partner with regional clinical leaders, managing partners, medical directors, and health system leaders, and proactively champion the patient experience initiative.
  • Work with Medical Directors, COPIC, and General Counsel, as appropriate, to respond to patient complaints and concerns about care, particularly as they relate to risk management and malpractice litigation.
  • Partner with the CEO and General Counsel to ensure CarePoint meets all regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Oversee quality investigations, peer review, and root cause analyses.
  • Establish and monitor clinical key performance indicators to follow clinical performance quantitatively and qualitatively.
  • Partner with regional leaders and the internal data team to produce and analyze data and balanced scorecard results related to safety, quality, patient, and team experience.
  • Promote standardization of medical practice using evidence-based medicine and clinical protocols.
  • With assistance from our onboarding team, provide input to the orientation/onboarding program for physicians, physician assistants, and others.
  • Provide leadership for CarePoint’s Physician Assistant program with emphasis on scope of practice, clinical quality, and recruitment.
  • Promote and manage efficient resource utilization through the effective use of data.
  • Partner with regional leaders to identify and remediate disruptive physician behavior.
  • Lead efforts to organize continuing medical education as needed to maintain competency and quality among CarePoint providers.
  • Serve as the clinical leader over the credentialing of providers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$400,000 - $450,000
